Not really sure how long I’ve been doing this, not sure how long I will continue. Don’t get me wrong – it’s amazing! But I’ve got so much else going on and I will most likely be leading worship less and less over the next few months. I am actually looking for worship leaders to come and be a part of our team. Karl is our Musical Director and he is going to focus more on building the bands and arranging the music. But we are in need of some gifted people who love to lead the people in worship vocally, who are humble, and can work with Karl on selection and arrangement.
Anyway, today was a bear. I’m not leading this weekend, not even in the band. So I thought I’d go over “Everlasting God”, boy did I bite off more than I could chew! I’ve been singing and playing this song for the past 6 months… wrong. Yeah, I admit it – it’s such a great song, and the church loves it. I’ve been depending on them to carry me through it, instead of me really hitting the notes well and leading. Gwen had me really working today – she had me sing the line, “Our God, you reign forever”, over and over and over and over – it was a nightmare! I was losing my support, singing flat, forgetting to round out the sounds. Finally she had me just do some funky stuff like sing “Owwer Gaod, You reign for-A-eever, Owwer hope, owwer strong Dee-liv-er-er…”. I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t pretty. And I could tell that even though I knew this song, I didn’t know it right, or well. So I’ve got lot’s of work to do on this one.
