It’s funny how blessings come into your life in the most interesting ways. Last week I found out that I was the winner of a little contest over at Jenni Catron’s blog. I am now the owner of ‘Unleashing the Power of Rubber Bands‘ by Nancy Ortberg. I didn’t even realize it but the forward is written by Patrick Lencioni, author of ‘The Five Dysfunctions of a Team‘, one of my favorite leadership books! Splendid, as my friend Karl would say. I received the book in the mail yesterday with an awesome little note – thank you Jenni. And if you don’t read her blog, I suggest you start (she’s the Executive Director at CrossPoint Church in Nashville). Here are a couple great posts to get started with:
Next, I had a little Starbucks meeting with my good friend Peter, where he not only hooked me up with a Grande Cinnamon Dulce Latte, but also a handfull of books. Peter’s one of those guys that I think Proverbs 18:24 is talking about when it says:
A man of many companions may come to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
He just showed up into my life about a year ago, and since then he’s been a great friend, and a guy where I don’t have to bring anything to the table when we hang out. We can chat about ministry, life, Wii, whatever – that’s kind of refreshing when usually all my conversations are complex and solution oriented… That’s not saying that he’s not deep – quite the contrary actually. Lot’s of times he’s got a great way of sharing some good wisdom with me.
Anywho. Peter dropped some great books on my plate this week, check ’em out:
- The Living Reminder by Henry J.M. Nouwen
- The Walk-On-Water Syndrome by Edward B. Bratcher
- Women In The Church by Grenz & Kjesbo
- Two Views on Women in Ministry by Gundry/Beck/Blomberg
The books on Women in Ministry were in response to this post, which brings this post back to a full circle, seeing as Jenni is a woman in ministry! Like I said, God blesses in interesting ways. Needless to say, I need to take a reading sabatical!
