I know I’m not writing a lot lately. Again it’s not for lack of stuff brewing in my head and heart – it’s just not ready yet… In the meantime, here’s some stuff that is really worth reading/watching:

  • Death By Growth Curve at Deadly Viper. Here’s an excerpt:
“I’ve also seen leaders do stupid things to maintain the “appearance” of growth year after year. Pump up the numbers, cook the books, exagerate, and get into schemes they should never of been a part of. All for the purpose of maintaining that magical growth curve.”
  • Dan Kimball’s Missional Misgivings. Here’s an excerpt:
“We all agree with the theory of being a community of God that defines and organizes itself around the purpose of being an agent of God’s mission in the world. But the missional conversation often goes a step further by dismissing the “attractional” model of church as ineffective. Some say that creating better programs, preaching, and worship services so people “come to us” isn’t going to cut it anymore. But here’s my dilemma—I see no evidence to verify this claim.”
  • Go check out I Am Second, be prepared to spend a few minutes there.
  • Videoteaching.com opened its doors yesterday. Although not offering any “video teaching” yet, they are looking for your choices in who they should have available. I am VERY excited about this resource. And a possible future post asking the question, “will video based teaching change the alpha male model of the pastor/preacher/dictator/strong man leader in the drivers seat of the local church?”
  • Something fun in this season of giving? Go to the Doghouse. Watch this video:

That’s all for now – that should keep you busy for a half hour or so. Hope it makes you think, cry, and laugh.

Been checkin out some sites that pop up on twitter or just via looking around the web:

  • Passpack – an online password keeper/manager (I don’t know about you, but I think I have about 100+ sites that require passwords – drives me nuts).
  • People Browser – yet another social media conglomeration site that uses twitter as its hub.
  • WorshipHouseMedia – 1. They’re giving away free videos 2. If you’ve never gone here, you should.

  • Churchmetrics – LifeChurch.tv’s newest free offering for stats management. Very web 2.0 and very FREE.
  • Videoteaching – LifeChurch.tv’s unrealeased site that says: Soon your church can use high-quality video teaching from the world’s top communicators… for free. Very excited about this, coming in less than a week!
  • ChurchCrunch – a cool blog with cool stuff related to tech/web/church/etc. Subscribe to this blog and you’ll probably be some of the first to hear about new stuff…

That’s all…

Sorry about not posting much lately. It’s not from a lack of thoughts, happening, and ideas. It’s just that life has bottlenecked my ability to blog. That picture is pretty much how I’m feeling right now – there’s a lot happening and a lot to blog about, but my capacity is low right now… Here’s just some quick thoughts for the day:

  • I love my wife more and more every day and missed her so much when I was…
  • At a staff retreat in Big Bear the past 3 days.
  • Had a great ‘discussion’ with our staff about Salvation – more on that later.
  • Had another great ‘discussion’ on eschatology with some staff, something that’s been on my heart and mind over the past year because…
  • I beginning to believe that your eschatology will define your ministry values – more on that later
  • Both my kids got haircuts when I was gone. Miles’ ears grew! Photos coming.
  • I need to explain to people that I’m not ‘always on Facebook’ – I just have everything linked together so that it shows up in Facebook.
  • I’m committed to wrapping up studying “women in the church” before I study more on eschatology and salvation, but they all are very exciting and important to me NOW.
  • Even though I’m not writing as much, I’m trying to keep up on reading via Google Reader.
  • I really like Death Cab for Cutie, Travis, and Frou Frou right now.
  • I’m listening to “Hello Love” by Chris Tomlin, finally – thanks Eric.
  • My thought for today (not that I have a ‘thought for today’ every day) was: Attempt something impossible next year. I have an idea what that means, but will be praying.

Thanks for reading!

It’s been a busy few weeks! I was sick for like a week and a half – I was only down for a couple days, but I felt pretty gnarly the whole time. Anyway, I missed blogging a few things and just thought I’d catch up.

Last week my dad turned 60! I know, that’s pretty crazy. He’s such a cool guy – the best grandpa you’ve ever seen! We did a little surprise party for him, which was like a local reunion of sorts with the church that I used to be a youth pastor at – it was so good to see a bunch of old friends and celebrate my dad.

A very good friend of mine, Trasier, invited us over to hang out and we got to connect with his family and some other old friends, the Beavers. This is a picture of their girls and our kids hanging out. Its amazing how old friends can instantly reconnect and have a great time together.

We discovered “Guitar Hero Word Tour”. One word: AMAZING! We love playing Guitar Hero 2 as a family on our Wii, this just takes it to another level. Even better songs (Sweet Home Alabama, Are You Gonna Go My Way, La Bamba, etc), online playing, downloadable songs, record your own songs, drums, guitar, bass, vocals – it’s awesome. Of course, we only rented it. Maybe we’ll get it for Christmas. And yes, Macy plays Guitar Hero on a Uke!

Me and Jen got to attend another South West Church Planters Forum and hear my great friend Eric lead worship. These are such a great resource in our valley for pastors, planters, and leaders in local churches – great networking, great food, and just refreshing.

Halloween! Actually the day before. We went to Jen’s Grandparents place, a local elder care place. The kids got to trick or treat to all the folks who lived there, plus we celebrated Jen’s Grandpa’s birthday. That’s Miles as Darth Vader – of course! Macy’s on the end as a princess, and then their good friends Ella and Allie. (Not sure who the other kids are!).

Miles had a park day for his school, Santa Rosa Academy. By the way, we are very pleased with our decision to send him to a charter school. He’s in school two full days a week, and home for the rest. We work with him on the other days – sort of like home school. He’s got some great friends and he’s already in 1st grade reading/writing. We’re very proud of him!

Miles is now a 4 stripe white belt and he tests tomorrow (Friday) night for his yellow belt. He’s doing his ‘forms’ all over the house and looks like a stud! Again, we’re SO proud of him.

Macy had Pajama Day at her school last week! She LOVED it! Got to wear her princess jammies to school and bring her baby. She was so cute – she’s such an awesome little girl.

We’re truly blessed!
