We spent a day going through our file cabinets & shredding old files – we’ve saved everything for the past 9 years (we got married in 2000). Anyway we found an old file with some of my original art. I wish I did a better job of keeping track of things, but it was cool to find these! I scanned em & uploaded them to flickr to archive and share here. Check some of these out (if you click on the pictures you’ll go to Flickr, where I put in some more details):

Hi, my name is Alex and I’m an artist. Ever since I can remember I’ve been an artist. I won awards as a young child, began doing graphic design as a teen, and entered the work force as a graphic artist. Somewhere in there I was a ‘sandwich’ artist too, but we won’t count that one. I’m not saying this to say ‘whoo hoo – look at me!’. I was just reminded this week of the fact, that if you look deep into who I am, I’m an artist. I love creating – I love that there’s something ‘right’ about good design, good music, good art. Now I’m not saying that everything I do is ‘right’ or ‘good’ – not by a long shot. But you know it when you see it or hear it.

All that to say that when I was first hired on to LifeChurch – one of my main responsibilities was our graphic design and the look & feel of the church – which I loved! So I went and scanned all (or most) of our mailers that I had designed (hey it was way easier than looking through the hard drive for the originals). Here they are in all their glory – or not.

*disclaimer – I didn’t have complete artistic freedom on most of these – especially the crowded back sides.

Ah nostalgia…

I’ve been on a design kick for some new branding at our church. We use the KNOW GROW GO mantra for our spiritual growth/formation strategy. We use the analogy of rock climbing to teach how to “clip in” and begin to grow, then to climb, and then to turn around and begin to help others on their climb (explanation of the carabiners). Here are some of the graphics:

more to come soon. I’ve got some youth ministry stuff, women’s stuff, and a worship event to take care of.

Two Words: Creative Chaos.

Ok, I wanted to just say that and be done with it, but this movement begs to be explained (quickly). Imagine the creative minds & hearts from churches all over the world sharing their ideas, resources, and dreams, freely and openly. Creative Chaos.

For me this has a very special impact in my life. I believe strongly that God reveals his characteristics through his creation. And it’s plain to see when you see the ideas and methods used by creative people all over the world, you get a small glimpse at God. Amazing.

So every Thursday, you have the opportunity to share what God has put in your heart. And every Thursday you have the opportunity to see what God has put in the hearts of his people.

Go there today.
