Quick version: slept in late, checked out Crown Center & Union Station in Kansas City, then headed out for St. Louis.
So, we we’re planning on getting up early and heading to St. Louis to visit the Arch & then head down to Nashville. Well, we woke up at like 9:00am (thank you very much Westin maid service!). So we decided to stick around Kansas City instead of rushing. We walked over to Union Station & checked it out – it was such a cool place. Then we headed back into the Crown Center for some lunch at Fritz’s – a cool little place where the kids got to wear Train Engineer hats & our food was delivered by train! AWESOME! The kids LOVED it! Here’s a little pic:
After lunch we headed over to the Hallmark Visitor’s Center. You’d think this might be a snore? Not really, actually. It was great! The kids got to stamp their way through a tour of the museum, watch a movie, build their own ribbon & see how cards are made – it was a great experience. Check out a little photo of the visitor’s center/mall:
So after we had our fill of Kansas City, we headed out on the road again – east towards St. Louis. So, again, Jen got online and started working her Priceline magic. She asked me where we should stay and again, I said ‘let’s try and get downtown’! Well, she got another great room at only $60! It was at the Marriott Union Station in St. Louis. Well, we didn’t know what to expect, but as we pulled into downtown St. Louis I saw this cool building on the left and I told Jen, ‘wouldn’t it be cool if that was our hotel?’ – well as we rolled by there was the Marriott sign! It was the COOLEST looking building EVER! So we did like we did the night before – checked in and explored. This hotel looks like it was a remodel of a super old train station with a mall attached to to it as well. Really cool! Dinner at a local joint that was indoor/outdoor – totally amazing and a great night sleep…
So one thing we learned is that there are some COOL places to stay in Kansas City and St. Louis! And we would have never found them on our own. We TOTALLY recommend both of these hotels and malls – WAY cool places to hang out and stay.
